Intro to Medical Interpreting for graduating bilingual seniors
UAMS Northwest offers an Introduction to Medical Interpretation for graduating bilingual high school seniors. The class is free but space is limited. The medical interpretation course, “Beyond Communication Limits”, is taught by UAMS Northwest personnel.
Students receive formal training in the techniques, ethics, and cross-cultural issues related to medical interpreting (a minimum of 20 hours is recommended by the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care). Interpreters will be assessed for their ability to convey information accurately in both languages before they are allowed to interpret in a health care setting. All or some portions of the training is given by a bilingual instructor. After completing 20 hours of training and testing, the students are given certificates providing proof of successful completion.
