AHEC Scholars

AHEC Scholars is a new, national initiative proposed by the Health Resources & Services Division, within the Bureau of Health Workforce of DHHS, to equip an interprofessional workforce to practice community-based primary care in rural and underserved areas across the United States.

The GOAL is to prepare a primary care workforce for Arkansas that is:

  • Diverse and culturally competent
  • Equitably distributed statewide
  • Capable of delivering high quality health care in evolving systems

AHEC Scholars will enhance skills and competence in these core topics:

  • Interprofessional Education
  • Behavioral Health Integration
  • Social Determinants of Health
  • Cultural Competence
  • Quality Improvement
  • Practice Transformation
  • Current & Emerging Issues

Application Process

AHEC Scholars will be selected from UAMS students, including medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant, public health, behavioral health, and nursing among others. Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated a service mindset and interest in community-based primary care in rural and/or underserved areas of Arkansas.
