MD Mentor Program

Medical Students

About the MD Mentor Program:

Getting into medical school wasn’t easy. You’ve gained valuable knowledge on what to do and what not to do when applying.  Are you interested in sharing your experiences?  As an MD Mentor, you will be matched with pre-medical students from your hometown or from the University where you graduated.  You will be able to provide invaluable information and resources for students as they prepare for a future in medicine.

Eligibility Criteria:

UAMS students currently enrolled in the College of Medicine are eligible to participate in the MD Mentor Program.

Program Duration:

Medical students agree to serve as MD Mentors over the course of one academic year.  An option to extend participation beyond 1 year is available for interested students.

Requirements:

MD Mentors will participate in Zoom meetings with pre-medical students that are arranged by UAMS Recruitment Specialists.  Zoom meetings will occur monthly and MD Mentors will sign up to participate in the meetings as their schedules allow.

Note: MD Mentors do not have to participate in all Zoom meetings.  MD Mentors may also be connected to pre-med students via email to answer questions in between Zoom meetings.

Zoom Meetings will cover a variety of topics such as:

  • Medical school in general
  • Student interest groups
  • Mental health/stress relievers
  • Application help
  • Interview tips
  • Personal statement tips
  • Resources that are helpful
  • Study tips
  • MCAT help
  • Debt/loan repayment options
and much more!
